£8 million investment planned for Narberth holiday park

Noble Court Holiday ParkAn £8 million investment is being planned for a Pembrokeshire holiday park in a bid to boost year-round trade after four wet summers. A 42-bedroom hotel, static caravans and lodges and four treehouses are being proposed for Noble Court Holiday Park on the outskirts of Narberth by owner Huw Pendleton.

"The aim is to offer a variety of visitor experiences at different levels," said Mr Pendleton, who is managing director of Celtic Holiday Parks, which owns three sites in Pembrokeshire.

"Recent summers have been dreadful weather-wise, and we have noticed a significant decline in the number of touring caravans. Noble Court is in an excellent position just a third of a mile off the A40, and also very close to Narberth, which is a unique selling point in itself.

We are looking to provide several styles of accommodation which would tap into a wider market; enable us to trade year-round and provide more employment, which of course would benefit the whole community."

In conjunction with their agents, Curtis Blain Ltd, Celtic Holiday Parks has submitted four planning applications for Noble Court to Pembrokeshire County Council.

Alongside outline planning consent for the hotel, access improvements and associated parking, permission is being sought for the treehouses; relocating the park’s 53 static caravans and lodges, with environmental improvements including creating two further lakes, together with upgrading the 92 touring pitches to enable static caravans and lodges to be sited.

£1 million plan for caravan site

Caravan ClubTHE CARAVAN Club is to invest a total of £1 million into a town site.

A programme of upgrades has been put together for the park at Forfar Lochside, as the club is looking to boost its tourist numbers in the area.

The award-winning and picturesque site on the shores of Forfar Loch has a total of five acres of flat, grassy park offering 70 pitches for both touring caravans and motor homes, and saw substantial improvements made to facilities last year, which included new paths and electrics.

It brings the total number of club sites in Scotland to 30, with another 121 smaller certificated locations also in the network. The club has introduced a flat-rate fee which is on offer on some Scottish sites to entice members to more remote and scenic locations.

More than 400 jobs to be created in Cleethorpes.

Thorpe ParkMORE than 400 jobs will be created in Cleethorpes to take the resort through the busy holiday season. Bosses at Thorpe Park and Pleasure Island are recruiting 200 seasonal staff each, with the potential for some permanent positions.

Thorpe Park general manager Andy Such said: "We are looking for good people across a wide range of skills and while some might start off as seasonal, we always look for someone with potential growth for a permanent position." Both businesses are vital to the local economy in Cleethorpes, with the holiday park providing accommodation and Pleasure Island being one of the resort's top attractions.

Jobs available include administration, catering, ride operatives, entertainers and park cleaners, among others. However, competition is stiff, with about 700 applicants each year for Pleasure Island alone – a figure which is likely to increase this year as more jobs are lost on the high street.

Haven Holidays to make £40m parks investment

Haven HolidaysHaven Holidays is promising improved facilities across its 35 parks in a £40 million investment.

The work will be carried out in time for when the parks open on March 18. This follows a 12% increase in repeat bookings by new holiday makers for 2013. New caravans will be available in many parks providing double-glazing and central heating.

A spokesman said: "We have a high proportion of repeat customers every year but what has surprised even us is the increase in the number of customers who experienced Haven for the very first time last year. Every year we work hard to improve the guest experience and invest over £40 million on new leisure facilities, new restaurants and new accommodation and 2013 is no different. Perran Sands in Cornwall, Rockley Park in Dorset, Golden Sands in Lincolnshire and Craig Tara in Ayr are just some of the parks that will have some great new upgrades this year."
